Pardew unhappy with Ba agent

Newcastle manager Alan Pardew has taken a swipe at star striker Demba Ba’s agent – and also revealed that the Magpies could still be vulnerable to losing him in January because a £7.5 million release clause remains in his contract.

The Sun reports that Pardew was less than happy with remarks made by agent Alex Gontran after Ba was left on the bench, but then came on to score both goals, in the 2-2 draw at Everton on Monday.

Gontran wasted no time in suggesting that he and his client could look elsewhere if Pardew continued to use him as a substitute, and said Ba “did not understand” the decision to put him on the bench at Goodison.

The manager confirmed that he had had words with the Senegalese striker, saying: “I’ve told Demba I was disappointed with some of the comments around him.

“The situation is ongoing in terms of his contract, because there is that clause in there and it makes us vulnerable.”

The Sun also claims that transfer market wallflower Mark Hughes could be eyeing up the market again – this time with a view to bringing Manchester City striker John Guidetti in on loan.

QPR have lost striker Andy Johnson to injury for the rest of the season, and the paper says Hughes sees City’s Swedish striker as the answer. The 20-year-old scored 20 goals in 23 games on loan at Feyenoord last season.

And the Mail says tonight could be the night when Tottenham fans get their first glimpse of France international goalkeeper Hugo Lloris, who has been kept out of the side by Brad Friedel and appears to be none too happy about that.

Reports suggested Lloris would be seeking “clear the air” talks with Spurs manager Andre Villas-Boas only a short while after arriving at White Hart Lane, while France coach Didier Deschamps said he would have to consider the keeper’s position if he was not playing regularly for his new club.

But the £12 million player is all set to face Lazio at the Lane as AVB prepares to rotate his squad for the European matches to come.

The manager said: “The Premier League is extremely strenuous. It is extremely difficult, and rotation has to be involved when you make the team selection.

“We understand it is important to rest players and we need to be very, very careful from now on.”
