Sexual Scenes In Ghanaian Movies Are Fake– Says Prostitutes

Some prostitutes who feel they have been sidelined by Ghanaian film makers have registered their displeasure at the phony and bogus sexual scenes depicted in Ghanaian movies.

Many critics, reviewers and sometimes the average layman ream at Ghanaian actors/actresses for fake acting in our movies. Indeed, when the era of nudity and erotism set into our movies few years back, many were those who still criticized the distasteful manner in which those sexual scenes were. Since prostitutes are dabs in sexual matters, I visited some of their trading joints in the city to sample their opinions on the topic; “what are your takes on sexual scenes in Ghanaian movies.” Read for yourself their responses.

“Ghanaian film makers are not serious. You can’t give what you don’t have. The people they use for the sexual scenes are not crafty enough. Sexual artistry lies in our palms. It is our job. They should come for us. For me, I can go stark naked in front of the camera for any form of sexual scene because when a man and a woman are having sex they both don’t wear clothes, do they? So if movies portray reality, then those actors and actresses must go naked. Can they…..? The film makers should come for us.”

“Sometimes when I hear the male actors like Majid or John Dumelo say they don’t erect or feel anything when they are shooting sexual scenes, I laugh. Yes! Because the Jackie Appiah or Yvonne Nelson’s can’t kiss well. Gentleman, the things I can do with my tongue in your mouth, even if you are impotent, your manhood will resurrect right now.”

“Well for me I am not interested in becoming a movie star. All I want is if they need a minor role like a concubine, secretary, prostitute, house maid, or any minor role that requires a very hot sexual scene, they should come for me. I am ever ready to do anything the director tells me to do. I hear Majid is stubborn when it comes to sexual scenes in movies. I want to be on set with him someone. I will make him beg in front of the camera.”

“Sexual scenes in Ghanaian movies are too fake! They don’t know how to kiss. They kiss as though their mouths smell. The way they moan are all fake! I can moan right now for your penis to wake up. Let me give you an example……”

Osarfo pleads; “Please don’t do that. I am a married man.”boast of Lakpacious, Mandy, Princess and others as strong female stand-up comedians (though there could be more am not privy to). It is on record that Mandy is the first female who started stand-up comedy in Nigeria.

Females in the Ghanaian art and entertainment or showbiz industry are playing pivotal roles and are excelling in their various chosen fields. Taking film making for instance; Shirley Frimpong Manson and Leila Afua Djansi are both doing phenomenal. Turning the radar to music; we have the likes of Akosua Agyapong, Cecilia Marfo, Eazzy, Efya, Becca, etc. Ama Atta Aidoo and Efua T. Sutherland have put Ghana on the international scene as far as storytelling is concerned as well as other females in other sects of our art industry who are also equally doing prodigiously.

The biggest comedy show in Ghana is Charterhouse’s 1000 laugh series. Since its inception, I’ve never seen any Ghanaian female stand-up comedian mount the stage to perform. The stage is always mastered with male stand-up comedians. The only female comedians we see are from Nigeria or are Nigerians. Why doesn’t Charterhouse discover female stand-up comedians and try them? Who knows…..they might prove a force to reckon with. The slogan; “what men can do, women can also do” has been evangelized all over the world for more than a century now. Indeed the slogan has been reloaded to now quote as; “what men can do, women can do and do better”.

The apropos questions worth pondering over are; don’t females in Ghana have strong comedy incisions for stand-up comedy? Are they scared or intimidated by the savvy jest and wit of the male stand-up comedians? Are they afraid of being called “fools” as some ignoramuses’ term comedians? Or are they not given the opportunity? What at all could be stymieing females from doing stand-up comedy in Ghana? A cerebral discussion must be unfurled on this issue now that the issue of comedy in Ghana is gaining attention. After all females say; “what men can do, they can do and do better”. Until then….MOTWUM!!
