Rawlings and Kufuor to play special roles in Mills' burial service
Former Presidents Jerry John Rawlings and John Agyekum Kufuor are expected to play different roles at this week’s burial ceremony of the late President, John Evans Atta Mills.
Members of the funeral planning committee yesterday met the two ex-presidents to brief them on arrangements for the funeral which will span three days.
A member of the committee, Nana Ato Dadzie told Joy News the committee briefed the former presidents “on the modalities for the funeral, burial service, the laying in state, the roles they are expected to play and general arrangements which have been put in place for a decent burial of the departed head of state”.
Meanwhile, nearly all the West African Heads of State are expected in Ghana for the burial of the late President on Friday August 10.
Foreign envoys and their representatives are also expected to attend.
Foreign Affairs Minister, Alhaji Mohammed Mumuni tells Joy News US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton will also be among the expected dignitaries.
The obituary of the late President has also been published with further detail about the arrangements.
According to the obituary, the body will be laid in state tomorrow, Wednesday 8th and Thursday 9th August at the State house whilst the burial service will be at the Independence Square on Friday.
It adds that the memorial and thanksgiving service will however be held at the Wesley Methodist Cathedral in Cape Coast after which final funeral rites will be done at the Zion Hill, Nkanfoa.
