Falcao:I can beat messi and ronaldo

Atletico Madrid striker Radamel Falcao claims he can overcome Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo and top La Liga's goalscoring charts in the coming season.

Falcao's return of 24 goals in 33 La Liga appearances last season was impressice, however he still finished well behind Barcelona's Messi (50) and Real Madrid's Ronaldo (46) in Spain's Pichichi race.

However, the Colombian hitman said that the challenge of outscoring the world's two best players in 2012-13 does not faze him in the slightest.

"Their number of goals is not impossible for me," Falcao said. "What I want is to celebrate a good season with the fans. And with my goals and those of the rest of the team I know they will be happy. 'Pichichi'? Why not? With faith everything is possible."

Falcao, who signed 12 months ago for €40 million from Portuguese side Porto, predicted he and his team will enjoy a successful campaign.

"I am very excited about the new season," he said. "The team is more stable and we know each other better. In my case I am more adapted to La Liga. On a personal and collective level we are able to improve on what we did last year."

Atletico begin the new campaign with a trip to Levante on Monday evening.

"We are arriving well, just at the right level," Falcao said. "We have done a good pre-season with good physical preparation. First up is the game against Levante, if we win there and go through the rest of the season game by game, we can reach the targets we have set ourselves."

Last season's Europa League winners Atletico also have a UEFA Super Cup date with Champions League victors Chelsea to look forward to on August 31st in Monaco.

"The Super Cup grabs everyone's attention," said Falcao, whose move to Atletico meant he did not represent Porto in last year's game against Barcelona. "It is a tournament, and a trophy, which brings a lot of prestige."
