Real Madrid want Ronaldo for life

Will Ronaldo stay at Madrid for life? (©GettyImages) The future of Cristiano Ronaldo could become much clearer tomorrow (Wednesday), with the Portuguese winger set for talks with Real Madrid club president Florentino Perez tomorrow.

Media speculation has been rife over the future of the 27-year-old former Manchester United star, with his personal revelations of sadness at the Santiago Bernabeu adding fuel to the fire in the Spanish capital.

Having signed the player for £80million just three years ago, the 97-cap international has a very limited number of options at his disposal, with only Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain the clubs who could realistically afford to spend big on the player.

Madrid certainly have no interest in selling one of the world’s best players at this stage, and rather than look towards the exit door, Los Blancos are reportedly preparing a new contract offer for Ronaldo.

Marca highlights that tax contributions, which are set to rise to 52% in the next 18 months, will make a huge dent in the player’s salary from 2014 onwards. With that in mind, Madrid are set to increase his basic wage to match other top earners around the world, and take the financial hit in the knowledge that they have an asset for the rest of his career.

Should Perez, Ronaldo and agent Jorge Mendes come to an agreement tomorrow, it’s unlikely to be announced to the press immediately. Madrid do not want to be seen to be pandering to the player’s demands.

And, in fairness, they are not. Real have had plans to extend Ronaldo’s contract for some time, according to reports in Spain. His comments were not well received in the Madrid boardrooms, but have potentially set the wheels in motion at a faster pace to secure a new deal.

Expect this story to keep on running until either Real Madrid confirm a deal has been struck, or Ronaldo claims the opposite. If that happens, then we could be looking at a new world record transfer fee.
