Sergio Aguero fell under the challenge of Southampton's Nathaniel Clyne
Aguero was taken off on a stretcher in the 13th minute of City's 3-2 victory over Southampton as they commenced their Premier League title defence. Mancini expressed his concern after the match, fearing Aguero's twisted knee may keep him out of action in the long-term.
"We don't know [the seriousness of the injury] at the moment," said Mancini. "We need to wait maybe two days for the scans. We hope it's not serious, but at this stage I don't know. I'm worried, yes.
"Usually the knee is always dangerous, but this injury was so strange. If it is a serious injury, we will probably change our transfer plans.
"Maybe he is out for a week, or three or four weeks, or after the international break. I'm worried, but at the moment we can't say anything."
However, Aguero later confirmed that initial medical consultations showed the injury was not as serious as first thought.
Writing on his official Twitter account, Aguero said: "The studies I had done revealed there's no significant injury but it was a very tough blow to my knee.
"Tomorrow, the physicians will evaluate the time it will take for me to recover. I have no words to thank for your concern for me and with this much support, I'll recover faster."
Aguero became City's leading goalscorer last term, netting 30 times in his debut season to help the club win their first league title in 44 years.
